THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
The Royals beat the Sox again
May 16, 1975
...
Dennis Leonard earned his major league victory with a
five-hitter and Jim Wohlford knocked in two runs as the Kansas City
Royals handed the Sox their fourth straight loss, 5-2.
The Royals jumped on Bill Lee for three runs in the third inning
after he got himself out of trouble with his sixth and seventh
pick-offs this year, in the first two innings. Fran Healy reached on
a base hit and Freddie Patek walked to start the inning. Then Amos
Otis singled home Healy for one run, and when Bernie Carbo let the
ball get by him in left field for an error, Patek scored.
The Royals added two more runs in the fourth inning on a walk to Al
Cowens, another single by Healy and a triple to center by Jim
Wohlford, making the score 4 to 1.
The Sox had scored their first run off Leonard in the first inning on
two singles. One was by Carbo and Rick Burleson followed with another
hit. But Carbo tried to advance to third on Amos Otis and was thrown
out. Carl Yastrzemski then brought home Burleson with a base hit.
In the sixth inning, Leonard hit Burleson and Yaz moved him along to
second on a line single. Tony Conigliaro scored Burleson with a fly
ball to deep center. Lee was raked for eight hits before giving way
to Dick Drago in the eighth inning. |
