FRANK ROBINSON |
THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
The
Indians beat up the Red Sox
June 23,
1975 ...
Frank Duffy drove in five runs with a homer and a two
doubles, while Frank Robinson added another home run and three RBIs,
to lead the Indians in an 11-3 massacre of the Sox, ruining the 1975
debut of Carlton Fisk for the Sox. The Indians were helped by three
Sox errors, and shelled Jim Burton for a 4-0 lead in the very first
inning. Burton gave up two walks and three doubles in just 2/3 of an
inning.
Indians rookie, Eric Raich pitched well but needed some relief help
in the eighth inning from Dave LaRoche.
Robinson belted his eighth homer of the season and the 582nd of his
career off Diego Segui in the third inning. Robinson also brought in
two runs with a single in the seventh inning.
Frank Duffy's first homer of the year, a two-run shot, came in the
sixth inning. He doubled across a run in their big first inning
and doubled home two more in the ninth.
Burton started the game by walking Buddy Bell. A perfect throw by
Fisk was dropped by Rick Burleson, allowing Bell to steal second
safely. Robinson walked and Rico Carty doubled off the wall for two
runs when Fred Lynn bobbled the ball. Charlie Spikes and Duffy
followed with doubles for four runs.
Lynn doubled, took third on an fly ball and scored on Juan Beniquez's
sacrifice fly in the second inning. Down 9-1, the Sox picked up an
unearned run on a walk, a fielder's choice, a throwing error and a
single by Rico Petrocelli in the seventh inning. Raich was driven out
in the eighth on a double by Denny Doyle and singles by Rick Miller
and Burleson make the score 9 to 3. LaRoche came in and struck out
Carl Yastrzemski on three pitches. Lynn drew a walk to fill the bases
Rice and Beniquez popped out to end the threat.
Fisk played five innings, made two good throws on attempted steals
and flied out and grounded out in his two at bats. |
