JIM RICE & FRED LYNN |
THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
Lynn's 4 RBIs and Yaz's 5 hits pace the Sox
July 13, 1975 ...
The Red Sox mounted a 15 hit attack as Fred Lynn drove
in four runs (71 RBIs), Carl Yastrzemski (.313 BA) had five straight
hits and Rico Petrocelli had three, as the Sox posted their 7th
straight win by beating the Texas Rangers, 7 to 5. They had a least
one baserunner in every inning except one.
First inning doubles by Yastrzemski and Lynn put the Sox up 1-0. The
Sox chased Rangers' starter Steve Hargan in the third inning, who
gave up singles to Bernie Carbo and Yaz and then a double to Lynn
that scored them both. Jim Rice's base hit brought in Lynn and the
Sox were ahead 4-0.
The Sox increased their lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning. Petrocelli
singled but was forced by Rick Burleson, then Carbo drew a walk from
reliever Steve Foucault. Jim Umbarger then took over for Texas and
gave up a double to Denny Doyle. Burleson scored and Yaz brought
Doyle across with a ball that nicked off centerfielder, Lenny
Randle's glove. Lynn reached on a bobbled grounder by thirdbaseman
Roy Howell, and Yaz scored the seventh run.
Howell homered the next inning and Rick Wise was finally chased in
the seventh. Singles by Randle and Howell put runners on first and
third. Mike Cubbage's sac fly scored one run and base hits to Jim
Sundberg and Cesar Tovar scored another. The Rangers added two more
in the eighth to make the score, 7-5.
Wise had a four-hitter for six innings but wilted in the hot and
humid weather, needing help from Bill Lee and Jim Willoughby.
The Sox have 84 hits and scored 57 runs in their seven-game winning
streak and take a four game lead into the All Star break. They lead
the league with a .275 batting average. |
