THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND July 14, 1975 ... No game scheduled ... After a directive by league president Lee McPhail that the clubs rest their ace pitchers on Sunday before the All Star Game, the American League sends Oakland's Vida Blue against National League lefthander Jerry Reuss from the Pirates. Rod Carew (.372 BA) was the overall to vote getter. Fred Lynn seemed reluctant to take too much batting practice, letting the veterans go in two or three times. The he hit two home runs in the five pitches he saw. Mickey Mantle took a turn in the batting cage but didn't get a ball out of the infield. |

July 15, 1975 ... The All Star Game ... The National League's 6 to 3 victory extended Dodgers manager, Walt Alston's record for managing the most winning All Star teams. It was his seventh winning team. Bill Madlock's bases-loaded ninth inning single broke a tie game and chased home the winning runs. The National League had a 3-0 lead after five innings, but Carl Yastrzemski's three-run homer, scoring George Hendrick and Gene Tenace, in the sixth inning tied it up. Fred Lynn went 0-for-2 in his All Star debut. He popped up a fastball from Tom Seaver and was struck out by Jon Matlack. He had no chances in centerfield other than picking up base hits. |
