The Rangers bombed Luis Tiant with 12 hits, including David
Moates' first major league homer and Jeff Burroughs 19th of the
season, to beat the Red Sox 6 to 0.
The Rangers scored four runs in the first inning while Moates slammed
Tiant's third pitch for his home run. And when the inning ended, the
Rangers had brought in three more runs.
After the Burroughs homer in the fifth inning, the Rangers scored
again in the sixth on a hit by Toby Harrah, a ground out and a single
by Jim Sundberg. Meanwhile, Ferguson Jenkins limited the Sox to just
five hits, coasting to a shutout victory.
Fred Lynn received a standing ovation when he crashed into a wall to
catch a fly ball from Tom Grieve. |
