ANDY ETCHEBARREN |
THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
The Sox throw the game away with four errors
August 26,
1975 ...
The Angels pinged and ponged the Sox to death while
Luis Tiant grooved a pair of pitches to Andy Etchebarren. The
Angels catcher hit a solo homer and a two-run single for the winning
runs in an 8 to 2 spanking of the Sox.
The Sox lost to Ed Figueroa for the third time this season, but took
a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Denny Doyle led off with a double to
right, and moved to second when Etchebarren let a ball get by him.
Figueroa walked Carl Yastrzemski before Fred Lynn lined a base hit
off his leg. Lynn was safe, Doyle scored and Yaz moved over to
second. A bloop double by Jim Rice down the right field line, brought
in Yaz for the second run.
Etchebarren's second homer of the season tied the game in the fifth
inning. The Sox, who committed four errors, handed the Angels three
more runs in the eighth, on a pair of suicide squeezes and a couple
of infield squibs.
Figueroa worked out of a jam in the ninth inning to secure the win.
He walked Yaz to open the inning and gave up a line single to Rice.
After walking Rick Burleson to load the bases, he got Rick Miller to
hit an easy grounder to first to end the game. |
