ROGELIO MORET |
THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
Moret squirms out of trouble on his way to a win
August 27, 1975 ...
Rogelio Moret allowed eight hits and walked seven batters,
but was able to post his 11th victory in 13 decisions, because the
Sox whipped the Angels 6 to 2. Moret showed his inconsistency once
again and yet again, won because of his ability to escape the jams he
creates.
Moret issued seven walks but struck out five in the first seven
innings. In the ninth inning, after allowing two hits, he was
relieved by Dick Drago, who struck out the two batters he faced on
eight pitches and ended the game.
The Red Sox jumped out front in the first inning and never were
threatened. The scored three runs on doubles by Denny Doyle and Fred
Lynn, before Jim Rice slammed his 21st homer into the centerfield
bleachers off Bill Singer.
The Angels came back with two runs in the second inning, when Moret
walked four batters and gave up one base hit.
The Sox scored again in their half of the second inning. Singer gave
up a single to Rick Burleson and walked Dick McAuliffe and then
walked Tim Blackwell to load the bases. Andy Hassler took over the
Angels' pitching duties and struck out Cecil Cooper. But the ball got
by catcher Andy Etchebarren which allowed Burleson to race home.
In the third inning, the Sox scored two more runs. Up 4-2, Hassler
allowed a double to right by Carl Yastrzemski and a single to left by
Fred Lynn. Rice's deep fly ball to center scored Yaz and Burleson's
fly ball later scored Lynn. |
