THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
Mike Torrez beats the Sox
September 17,
1975 ...
Mike Torrez posted his 19th victory and Tommy Davis
contributed a home run and two singles, as the Orioles beat the Red
Sox by a 5 to 2 score.
The Orioles backed Torrez with a 13-hit attack. Davis belted his
sixth homer of the year and added two singles while Brooks Robinson
knocked out three hits.
The Sox got a run in the first inning on a two-base error by Lee May,
an infield out and an infield hit by Fred Lynn.
Rick Wise escaped damage in spite of some hard line drives hit right
to his fielders. When Davis finally belted his home run into the
screen in the third inning, it was the 32nd round-tripper off Wise
this year. Baltimore went ahead to stay in the fourth inning. Don
Baylor singled, stole second, went to third on Carlton Fisk's wild
throw that went into center and scored on a single by Elrod Hendricks
to go up 2-1.
Three straight singles by Paul Blair, Davis and May ended Wise's day
in the fifth inning. Cleveland came into the game and walked Ken
Singleton to load the bases. Baylor grounded into a fielder's choice
at second out but scored Davis. Davis stole second again while May
scored on the double steal, putting Baltimore ahead, 5-1.
Lynn's double to center and a base hit by Fisk that scored him, made
the score 5-2 in the seventh. |
