Mickey Lolich shuts down the Sox
September 20,
1975 ...
Mickey Lolich had a great sinker working and held down
the Red Sox, as his Tigers beat them 5 to 1. Luis Tiant, on the other
hand, was banged around by Tiger hitters for seven hits in 3 2/3
innings.
Lolich, who had lost his last five starts, gave up a run in the first
inning and held the Sox scoreless the rest of the way. He walked Juan
Beniquez to start the game and gave up a hit to Dwight Evans. After
two outs, Carlton Fisk beat out a run-scoring grounder to short.
The Tigers matched the Sox run in the bottom half of the first when
Ron LeFlore singled to left, stole second and rode home on Ben
Oglivie's hit. Bob Molinaro tripled to left in the third inning for
his first major league hit, and rode home on another Oglivie hit. The
Tigers went up 4-1 in the fourth inning on LeFlore's second hit of
the game with runners on second and third. Tom Veryzer scored the
Tigers final run in the eighth, scoring on a doubleplay. |
