The Sox jump on the Yankees quickly
in the A.L. Wild Card Game

...
Quickly, Xander Bogaerts and Kyle Schwarber hit home runs and
Nathan Eovaldi tossed 5 1/3 innings, striking out eight, as the Sox
beat the Yankees, 6 to 2 in the American League Wild Card Game.
Bogaerts blasted a two-run homer in the first inning and Schwarber
lofted one into the right field bleachers in the third inning. Alex
Verdugo later, added an RBI double and added a two-run single.
Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton homered for the Yankees, but it
was not enough, as Nathan Eovaldi, Ryan Brasier, Tanner Houck, Hansel
Robles and Garrett Whitlock kept the Yankee bats in check. Yankee
starter, Gerrit Cole lasted two+ innings and allowed three runs on
four hits.
In the first inning Stanton hit a solo blast that he thought was a
homer, but it scraped the Green Monster for a single. Then Bogaerts
crushed a two-run homer into the center field bleachers off Cole, in
the Sox half of the first, following a walk to Rafael Devers.
Schwarber next homered over the Yankee bullpen, to put the Sox up 3-0
in the third. Two batters later, Cole was sent to the showers.
Rizzo homered in the sixth off Nate Eovaldi for the Yankees first
run. After Aaron Judge beat out a grounder to Bogaerts, Alex Cora
gave the ball to Ryan Brasier. Stanton then slammed another ball off
the wall, but Judge was thrown out at the plate by Bogaerts, trying
to score from first.
Verdugo's double in the bottom of the inning, restored the Sox' three
run lead, and he brought home two runners in the seventh inning, on
his second hit, with the bases loaded.
