“DIARY OF A WINNER”

VERN BICKFORD
& WARREN SPAHN

BOSTON BRAVES ...
SPAHN & SAIN and PRAY FOR RAIN ...

September 8, 1948 ... No game scheduled ... The entire Braves team, except for Ray Sanders, who was recalled from Hartford, and pitcher Bob Hogue left South Station on the noon train for Philadelphia. Sanders went to get an exam that would see if he was well enough to play, after being struck in the head by a pitch.

Eddie Stanky, along with his wife and daughter, left with the club. Sunday will be Eddie Stanky Day at Shibe Park.  Friends will be on hand to honor the Philly born Stanky.

The Pirates exploded for four runs against Cincinnati at Forbes Field to beat the Reds, 5-1.  Tiny Bonham set the Reds down on four hits.  Ted Kluszewski homered for the Reds only run.  The Pirates gained a 1/2 game on the Braves and are 3 1/2 games behind in second place.
